Bossche School architecture weekend in Grave
The Graafs Museum will organize a Bossche School weekend to close the exhibition “Jan de Jong: Bossche School in Grave” on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd of March. In cooperation with the De Jong family, architecture publicists Hilde de Haan and Ids Haagsma and the museum in Ravenstein the Graafs Museum will organize a variety of special activities. These include a visit to the home of Jan de Jong, guided tours around buildings by Jan de Jong in Grave and a car route along Jan de Jong highlights promise to result in a beautiful architecture weekend in Grave and surroundings.
Guided tours Jan de Jong residence
At the residence of Jan de Jong in Schaijk, still inhabited by his widow, guided tours will be organized during the Bossche School weekend. These tours are available upon registration at the Graafs Museum and availability is limited, so be sure to register in time. These tours will start at 10:45 and 12:00, both on Saturday and on Sunday. The entrance fee is €7,50, which includes entry to the Graafs Museum with coffee and biscuits after the tour.
Architecture publicists De Haan and Haagsma
The architecture publicists Hilde de Haan and Ids Haagsma have devoted themselves for over three decades to architecture in general and the Bossche School architecture in particular. This Jan de Jong weekend they will come from Alkmaar to Grave for two days to provide the audience with more insight into the world of the Bossche school and the architect Jan de Jong. On Saturday they will kick off with a lecture about Jan de Jong and his Bossche School work in Grave. Afterwards visitors can join the architectural walk through downtown Grave at 15:00. This walk will be organized again on Sunday at 13:00. At 15:00 a walk will commence to Grave –West (the Bikkelkamp and Zittert areas) where Jan de Jong designed dozens of dwelling houses in the first suburban areas outside the fortified town of Grave in the fifties. Hilde and Ids have written a number of beautiful books about the Bossche School and Jan de Jong: during this weekend they will sign their books.
Car route Jan de Jong
In the Graafs Museum a car route can be bought which can be used to make a tour from Grave, through Reek (including the grave of Jan de Jong), along the residence of Jan de Jong to Schaijk (which has a town hall by Jan de Jong) to the museum for flat glass art and enamel art in Ravenstein which is located in a Bossche School building. This route is available from the 10th of March.
You can register for the guided tour through the Jan de Jong residence (€7,50 per person) by sending an email to info@graafsmuseum.nl including the number of people who will be visiting on which day, and which time slot you prefer. The Graafs Museum has extended opening hours during the Jan de Jong weekend: from 10:00 to 17:00. The regular opening hours are from 13:00 to 17:00 from Wednesday to Sunday. Entrance fee (also for activities) is €3,-.
